If I'm not mistaken, this is Coeburn's first regional tournament appearance since 1995.

According to today's Kingsport Times News, the boys quarters will be played on Wednesday 2/22.

    Twin Springs/Haysi at 7PM, Castlewood/Coeburn at 8:30PM.

They played, if memory serves, Thomas Walker in that game. It was the late game that night. Tourney was in Norton that year.

TS played Haysi in the opening game, won 62-59. TW and Coeburn in the nightcap. TS won and I think Coeburn won as well. TS played Norton in the semis, won 96-68. Council played Coeburn in the other semi and won going away. Set up the standing-room only final on Saturday. I watched that game from the cafeteria.

That was an awesome final. Council I believe was the better team but Ervin just hit a remarkable shot there in the corner to win it at the buzzer. That may be the best high school game played in the last 10 years around here.

The Burton/TS game was unreal too. Ervin had 37 at the half including the 3/4 court shot at the end of the first half. I think he ended up with 49 but TS coasted to victory in the 2nd half.

Burton got 'em back the next year ending Ervin's career at Hurley.

That game vs. Council was quite good, but the one played in 96 at Thomas Walker was a bit better. Triple overtime.

Norton didn't beat TS until 97 at Hurley.
